Through a number of visual media, I explore various forms of complex issues related to, among other things, gender roles and mental health. Based on my own and others' experiences related to the issues presented, my desire is to capture the raw intensity behind trauma, injustice and power structures. In "Self-portrait with bridal crown" I focus on the possible consequences and oppression that come with having to deal with the symbolism of the traditional Norwegian bridal crown. A bridal crown and flowing hair used to be considered signs of innocence and sexual virginity. If the bridal crown was worn by a woman who was not a virgin, she risked heavy fines as punishment.
