Despite societal changes in men’s and women’s roles, gender stereotypes have persisted across the decades. This painting was created to show the expectations women are pushed to adhere to in society with regards to beauty standards and gender roles. So often women are stuffed into this box making us become what others want us to be. With its optical movement, this painting successfully creates a visual depiction of these body parts being forced into a hole.
