The City series was born as a series of very playful, small-scale experiments using oil paint left over from work on larger pieces. I was fascinated by the seemingly random and chaotic process of applying paint in improvised compositions and decided to continue working on the series, with the archetypal image of the cityscape as a loose reference. These pieces are an extension of my interest in a geometric language executed with heavy oil impasto.
